Dissenting parliamentarians demand election favorable conditions
Opposition congresspersons María Corina Machado and Andrés Velásquez handed over a paper to the board of directors of the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE)
Representatives of the opposition fraction at the Venezuelan National Assembly (AN) on Wednesday handed over a paper to the National Electoral Council (CNE) whereby better conditions for national voting are requested.
Deputies María Corina Machado and Andrés Velásquez pursue a meeting with the CNE board of director to discuss the planned changes in national polls.
"Vote is an expression of people's sovereignty and in default of people's voting there is no national sovereignty; for this reason, we appeared here in advocacy of it. Our obligation is not resting until manage to remove all the obstacles to the full exercise of sovereignty," Machado upheld.
"As set forth in the national Constitution, elections should be free, universal, direct and secret. For elections to be democratic, there is the need to comply with a number of principles that are missing in the country elections," she added.
A shipment of over 30,000 tons of phosphate arrived at Puerto Cabello port in late July on board the Shi Long Ling, a Chinese-flagged vessel that began its long journey in northern Africa. The cargo boat docked on July 26 after traveling more than 3,200 nautical miles. Undoubtedly, this would just be considered one in many cargo ships crisscrossing the oceans if it were not for the fact that Venezuela has denounced Western Sahara occupation by Morocco and yet purchases the territory's natural resource products from the occupying power.
